To recap, Checkout+ is an add-on system for existing self-checkout machines. It will be powered by a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and a Coral USB Accelerator to speed up computer vision. A Microsoft Surface Pro and a custom built scale will stand-in as replacements for the existing self-checkout system. The backend will be running Python using TensorFlow for image classification and Flask for API building. The frontend will use the Vue.js framework.
So far, all parts have been ordered and received. The first scale prototype has been built and development on the image classifier, frontend, and backend has begun. There will be more details to come in separate blog posts.
